Life Is Short

PrAIrie · 3 September 2026 · 3:08

“Life Is Short” is a country song about how fast life changes when nobody is looking.

One day you’re kicking gravel down a road with your friends, convinced you have all the time in the world. Then somehow there are bills on the table, numbers running late into the night, people depending on you, and a version of yourself you barely recognize staring back from the mirror.

This song lives in that space between who we were and who life asked us to become. It is about growing older without pretending you have everything figured out. About being tired, being scared, being grateful, and still getting up the next morning anyway.

Because life does not usually announce the moments that matter most. Sometimes it is a phone call. A drive past an old park. A drink with someone you almost forgot to call. A normal day that becomes important only after it is gone.

Life is short. So say it twice. Call your people. Love out loud. And try to make the small seconds count.

Lyrics

Back when a flat tire meant We walked and we laughed Kicked that old gravel Till the daylight passed We swore we'd be legends On that rusted front porch Never guessed how quick You get pulled off course It was young and careless Wild and free Now the bills stack high on the table with me I'm just a man with a head full of doubts Still getting up when the sun crawls out Life is short So I raise this glass To every little moment that slips so fast (yeah) I'm just a man trying to survive Trying to feel this day alive Now it's late-night numbers And tired red eyes Voice on the phone saying "We’ll be fine" I hide my worry In a practiced grin But it’s hard to be tough With the walls closing in It was young and careless Wild and free Now the weight of the world leans hard on me I'm just a man with a heart that’s sore Still holding on when I can't take more Life is short So I say it twice Call my friends Let the silence slice (hey) I'm just a man trying to survive Trying to feel this day alive So I drive past the park Where we learned how to dream See kids on the swings Hear an echo of me If tomorrow don’t come Or it comes too quick Let today be the song That finally sticks It was young and careless Wild and free But the truth in my chest means more to me I'm just a man who still gets scared Still saying thanks for the breath we share Life is short So I love out loud Pull my people close from the scattered crowd (oh) I'm just a man trying to survive Making every small second feel alive
