There's a riff that keeps coming back.
The Drill put it out in 2004, built from high-pitched blips over a bassline that hit like a wall. Pakito sampled it in 2006 and turned it into a number one record in France. MORTEN reworked it in 2023 and made it dark and enormous for main stages. Same idea, three decades, three completely different production philosophies.
This is the fourth entry, with its own riff.
143 BPM in F minor. The lead plays for almost the entire track and barely changes, because that's the point. Underneath it sits a seven-note pattern running against a four-beat bar, which means it never lines up the same way twice and your ear stops trying to find where it starts.
Three words of vocal. Say it again. Repeated until it stops being language and turns into rhythm, which is what a slogan actually is.
Having said that, it took thirteen versions to get this one right. The riff kept trying to develop and the whole track depends on it refusing to.
