Black Glass

AIrmin Van Buuren · 5 August 2026 · 5:50

Black glass is what a screen looks like when it's off. You catch your own reflection in it before it lights up, and for about half a second you're looking at yourself instead of at everything else.

That's the whole track. Twelve words across six minutes, and most of them are the same two.

138 BPM in F# minor. Rolling 16th offbeat bass that doesn't stop, an acid line sitting underneath adding grit, and a lead melody short enough to survive being repeated forty times without wearing out. The melody isn't the point. The waiting is.

The builds run long. Longer than they should. That was deliberate and it took a few passes to get right, because everything wants to resolve on schedule and the entire feeling of this style lives in the gap between when you want the drop and when it arrives.

Having said that, if you skip ahead to the drop you've thrown away the reason it works.

I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please share and subscribe. :)
